TM1 10.1 and CE 10.1

Post by jameswebber » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:58 pm

Guys,
Still no real info about what is in or out of TM1 10.1 and the next version of Cognos Express

Thanks to an Info Cube Tweet (http://www.infocube.com.au/infocube-blo ... sight.html)
I see that IBM Switzerland are demoing CE 10.1, TM1 10.1 and Cognos Insight on 27 March 2012.
https://www-950.ibm.com/events/wwe/grp/ ... cale=de_CH

Contacted our local IBM Technical Specialist to ask for any new info to be presented at our Wellington user group.

For me personally a big question is will CE 10.1 support Office 2010 64 bit, figure the answer is no (as Tm1 9.5.2 only supports 32 bit Office 2010), but nice to know either way for planning.

Standard IBM practice I am afraid. Though who do know are probably bound by NDA's. We included a section on the official IBM road map at our customer upate day last year, but it was illustrated by a completely blank slide. :(

I can't see anything in the descriptions for CX and TM1 which hasn't already there in CX 9.5\TM1 9.5.2 so might just be a general roadshow using the "latest" version.

On the other hand, as previously noted, a release date of March does tie in with the current publication date of the "Official" TM1 guide. http://www.mcgraw-hill.com.sg/html/9780071765695.html
Also, from a marketing point of view I think IBM need to get the next releases out as soon as possible, we haven't had any significant new TM1 user functionality for a long time.

btw I love the wording "connect financial and operational performance management by entangling planning and analytics....in one user experience."

Thanks Stephen,
It is pretty bad IMHO.

I can understand not wanting to disclose future development info (Cognos 11?), or only under NDA.
(In fact I have asked for roadmap next release info under NDA but got nothing.. so you could have followed up your blank slide with that ;) )

The next version of CE is in IBM partners hands for testing and book is being written on TM1 10 (as you suggest) so you think a release date and high level notes 2 -3 months before is not unreasonable.

I used to think Microsoft was bad at this (but they previewed SQL 2012 Denali early last year). IBM makes Microsoft look like saints in this area.

Well that's my gripe... I'll go back to business telling them I still have no idea when the latest version will be available and if it's worth upgrading..

As you mentioned James those that have signed up for the partner beta testing program have seen V10 and know what's coming. I think they have only opened it up to partners as they have the most to loose if they break the NDA.

I think they are not releasing what is coming for 2 reasons:

1) Give them a head start over the competition.

2) There may be some overlap with other current Cognos products and advertising this could have impact on both their sales and their user base.

This is only a guess mind,

Jim.

Ok, here it is, the official IBM Product Road Map!! ;)

Seriously though, I am not sure if people have seen invitations for the Vision 2012 conference in May. This is aimed at the FPM part of the Cognos portfolio ( TM1, Controller, FSR, SPSS, Open Pages {maybe even a little bit of Cognos Planning}). I would hope that there will be something new to show by then and, if so, would be a good opportunity to look at detailed product and positioning. Shame it is in Orlando.

Fingers crossed for some good news soon.

I just got an invite from a consultancy firm which read:
Please find below an invitation to attend a preview session regarding TM1 10 - we thought this maybe of interest to you.

This session will provide you with a sneak preview of the next version of TM1 10 that will be launched on this day. The session will focus on a product demonstration from IBM of the exciting new User and Administration interfaces,
Oh, the date? February 8. But...
as well communication around the product roadmap for TM1 in 2012.
Yeah, right.

TM1 version 10 is starting to sound a lot like the Nikon D800. (Vapourware, but in an allegedly plastic body.) Well, OK, not quite... unlike the D800 (which I'm beginning to suspect is nothing more than a marketing ploy) I believe that there is a TM1 version 10 out there somewhere, which will be released... some time. But I don't believe that we'll ever see a product roadmap again unless Applix is ever spun back out of IBM.

There do seem to be quite a few IBM presentations scheduled for the next few weeks, not sure if this flurry of activity means anything but it ties in with the TM1 10.1 guide publication date. I suppose it could just be a coincidence.........

Is not just a Cognos Inslight promo and will have info on TM1 10

Figures crossed since I need to get up at 6am for it.

HAAAAH!!! Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm in the office by not much after 06:00 most days. (And it would be by 6 had we not been cast out into the wilds of the city fringe close to nothing of note, including decent transport.) Even on weekends 05:30 is a latish morning for me.

I'm afraid that having to get up at 6am is not something that's triggering my sympathy gland. :P

(Although getting up at 6 to have to sift through the usual copious quantities of Corporatese BS and spin to dredge out the handful of nuggets of useful information might, especially if you end up getting fewer of them than you hope for.)

I think the later is what I'm really worried about ;)

Actually I usually get up at 04:30, and get in at 6... and it's mostly not to avoid traffic, but rather to avoid (or at least postpone) the copious 'phone calls and e-mails that start when other people do.

On weekends it's more to do with the fact that the light gods decided to assign the best light of the day to dawn and dusk.

(Barely sleeping helps.)

So I was going to say TM1 10 was available for download but someone bet me to it and then IBM took the link down:
http://www.tm1forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6882

I see from a number of sources that today (Feb 7th) is the release day for TM1 10, longer wait for CE (to be expected)

and if you get up at 6am you might catch a glimpse of Summer in Wellington. The weather forecast is only predicting Summer for 10 minutes so don't sleep in.
