Palo cubes now accessible via Pivot Tables

Post by John Hobson »

New info from Jedox
We have some exciting developments to announce in regards to our free-of-charge Open-Source OLAP Product Palo for Excel. We decided to include an ODBO driver (MDX) in the free download of Palo for Excel . The new ODBO connectivity allows to access Palo OLAP cubes via Excel Pivot Tables in Excel. It will be another 2 weeks from now and then everybody can do advanced OLAP-based Pivot Table queries in Excel without having to buy expensive licenses for Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services.

Palo PR

Interesting development?
Jedox, an international software company that develops and markets commercial, open source-based planning, analysis and reporting solutions, has announced a new development for its Open-Source OLAP Palo product - the industry's first free ODBO driver (MDX) in the cost-free download of Palo for Excel.

The new ODBO connectivity allows users to carry out advanced OLAP-based Pivot Table queries in Excel without the need for expensive licenses for Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services. While Pivot tables in Excel are read-only, Palo users will have the option to writeback values from Excel directly to Palo's OLAP cubes.

"With Microsoft's recent announcement of the end of PerformancePoint Planning, this is a great opportunity for users looking for an inexpensive but powerful centralised planning application utilising the familiar Excel user interface. By adding a writeback facility, Palo becomes an interesting choice for server- and Excel based planning applications in the mid-market space. 'Excel plus Palo' provides all the advantages of a centralised BI solution without the cost and time," explains Jedox CEO and Founder, Kristian Raue.
