Remove Automatic Recalculate from View

Post by conray »

I find that if i save a view with automatic recalculate turn on, then try to save it with automatic recalculate turn off, it doesn't work.
Is it a bug? Or is as intended?

Are you talking about Cube Viewer, Web, or somewhere else?

In Cube Viewer on my copy of 9.5.2 the automatic recalculation setting saves correctly with the view, both on and off.

I am talking about Cube Viewer.
When i save with the option on, it works as intended, meaning the values are automatically fetched when the view is opened.
When i save with the option off, the values are also automatically fetched when the view is opened.
I wonder why.

I am on 9.5.2 FP1 now.

Because I do not think that the expression "automatic recalculate" means what you think it means.

If I may cite the 9.5.2 Reference Guide:
This option enables or disables automatic recalculation upon view reconfiguration. A check mark indicates that the view is automatically recalculated whenever the view configuration changes.
My emphasis; "upon view reconfiguration", not upon opening. (Which would be "calculation" rather than "recalculation".) Most people would find it annoying to open the view and immediately need to hit another command to calculate it. Not all, but most. The option is mainly there to stop you from going crazy as you drag dimensions around the view.

Alan, thanks for the reference.
So i guess it is impossible to stop the view from calculating upon opening it...

Can't think of why you'd want to unless it's to allow the thing to be reconfigured (i.e. to allow element selection) before calculation. In that case the easiest way to do it is to create a subset which contains an element that everyone has access to but which never stores any data (even if it's a dummy element) in one of the title dimensions. That way when people open the thing they'll always see the "No Values" dialog leaving them free to select the real elements before calculating it.

This is the 2nd time you have done it.
