Hello,
I'm using Cognos Express Planner (TM1) in a dedicated server.
The model is in the default folder CXMD. Yet I need to create a dev instance (for example CXMDDEV) in the same server.
I look in IBM documentation getting the idea that the server can't have more then an instance (opposite to TM1 where we can have more then one server).
Can someone tell me if this information is correct (must I install another cognos express and planner in another server for dev purposes)?
Thank you in advance for the time taken regarding this subject.
Best Regards,
Jorge

I can't speak specifically to Cognos Express, but I have one server with two TM1 instances running on it simultaneously. You just need to make sure they're in separate folders and running on different ports (via tm1s.cfg).jviegas@bi4all.pt wrote:I'm using Cognos Express Planner (TM1) in a dedicated server.

The CognosExpress license model just covers the one TM1 instance (CXMD). So the documentation is correct there.jviegas@bi4all.pt wrote:Hello,

Nonetheless, from a technical point of view it's possible to have more...

I better do not encourage people to bypass IBM's licensing modeljviegas@bi4all.pt wrote:Thank you both for the answer.

I am sorry to say that although this is possible... in the event of audit IBM would be very happy to throw some significant fines your way.kwijibo ,

You can get a development/test environment for half the price of the standard Xpress connector (which were reduced in price at the beginning of this year)... so for a couple of grand you can get a dev environment.
I am sorry if my response comes across as incredibly conformative to IBM's rules but when you take up Xpress instead of TM1 the huge cost saving is as a result of the User limit (100) and the instance limit (1).
If you still intend to go ahead with "bending" the rules... it would be very much ill advised to state that is your intention on a public forum...

Tkank you for the feedback.
In fact I didn't know this. I have to step back and rethink this situation with the client.
Thanks again for the information.

Jorge

Can't you create DEV cubes and processes on the same instance - using TIs pointing at a DEV source system? You could prefix these with 'DEV_'. This would "sort of" give you two instances in one
Just an idea
