TM1 9.1 on MS Terminal Server

Hi,
Instead of Citrix, we are looking at implementing TM1 client using MS Terminal services due to low number of remote users.
Is there anything we should watch out for on the TS or TM1 setup?

We used to use Terminal Services, then changed to Citrix when we bought a new server. The change was on the basis of a suggestion by our IT department. The main reason that we did so is that maintenance of printer access under Terminal Services was a serious pain for them, whereas Citrix is supposed to be able to manage this effortlessly.

The other advantage of Citrix is that it allows the users to effortlessly save files to their own hard disk drive.

In theory.

If Citrix put as much effort into its application code as it does into its licencing code (actually even if they put a lot LESS effort into their licencing code and spent that time down at the pub), it'd be a helluva product. As it is, it's just not too bad at all once you actually get it running.

However we have maybe 40 or 50 users who need to use it, and they churn a lot. If you have only a handful, then as you say, you probably don't need it.

Put simply, the biggest difference between the two (IMHO) is that should expect to do more maintenance of network printers if you go back to TS rather than Citrix. Other than that, there's not a huge difference in setup work. (Assigning permissions and so forth.)

If the remote user and the host are not running the same windows version then shared resources like the clipboard can be a little dodgy, but otherwise I have found TS completely satisfactory for TM1 versions 6.0 through 9.0.

Buh? Can you elaborate on that, Mike?

I'd have thought that they'd ALWAYS be running different versions given that the TS server would typically be some flavour of Windows Server, while the remote user would normally be on a desktop version like XP Pro.

Or are you talking about a "cross-generational" situation like a user who's still on Win 9x, assuming that there are any?
