Action button: eliminate borders

Post by Patrick Gr » Wed Jan 09, 2019 9:05 am

Hello community,

I've changed action buttons on Excel (published on TM1 web) by putting background images, but the aesthetic is not clean.
I want to remove borders for these specific TIButtons but don't find any option in perspective.
Can you please help me find a way to embellish the buttons by removing borders.

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

You can change the default action button appearance to any picture you want:

Sorry for my English ;)

Thank you Elessar for your reply.
The problem actually is not putting an image: It is already done.
The problem is to remove borders from this image. like shown bellow:

Hi,

We are still on 10.1 and I have found images on action buttons to be problematical, particularly when trying what you are doing.

So I have 2 alternative ways to deal with this

Option 1 - embed the image on the actual worksheet (not on the action button) and put an action button underneath the image with the relevant text.

Option 2 - Create a simple image in excel (or wherever you like), which is purely the relevant wording with background colour (needs trial and error to get sizing correct), save as a jpeg and add image to action button. Then resize action button in websheet as required, but the resizing in action button will only really work if the correct size is set when creating image in excel!

From a look and feel point of view I personally prefer option 2!

cheers, Mark

Enable the Developer menu
Select Properties of the object
Format Shape
Shape Options\Line\No Line

I've tested this with PAX Action Buttons but I believe this would work with Perspectives Action Buttons

@David:
it is such option that I'm looking for, but don't find it in TM1 10.2
@Mark:
For the option 1, when I put an action button underneath the image and publish my worksheet on web, the button is not operational anymore.
For the option 2, it is actually what I did, I created the image on paint, save it as jpg, add it to the action button, then had as a result the image with right and bottom borders. I think these borders are related to the action button configuration.

I should have made clear that the Developer toolbar is an Excel option - not a TM1 option:

Hi

Watch the start of this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxjnKz9-h7M) for the general idea of putting the button below the image (though in this case they use hyperlinks but it can easily be done with action buttons). If your button no longer works try deleting and recreating it

For option 2 (see image below), if you use a normal image you are going to struggle to get rid of the border affect, at least that is my experience. We moved away from images with pictures toward images with wording, as you can see from the image. I admit the image still isn't perfect by any stretch but I think it does look cleaner than a picture and getting a picture to size correctly is a headache I can do without!

I created the image in excel via a textbox with a black outline, copied the textbox into word and saved it as a jpeg. After trial and error I determined the jpeg should be 182 x 87 pixels (but in order to get this sizing in the jpeg I had to get the sizing correct in word). Basically it involves trial and error, at least it did for me!

The other alternative is that you live with the border!
