Morning All,

Just a quick one. IT have rolled out 64 bit windows 7 machines and excel 32 bit has been baked into this VM. Since you need 32 bit Perspective to work with 32bit Excel does the same rule apply to the operating system? i.e will installing 32 bit Perspectives on 64 bit windows environment work?? I had a look through the documentation but could not find anything also I cannot test this myself ( since I donot have the rights ). If excel was 64bit this would all be resolved and both os , tm1 and excel would all be on 64bit.

So simply, will installing 32 bit Perspectives on 64 bit windows environment work? Or is it possible with some IT trickery that I am unaware of?

Cheers

Zark

Perspectives is not a program, it's an add-in. Therefore it's compatibility is with its host (Excel), not the operating system. It's host's compatibility is, however, affected by the OS.

32 Bit Windows
CAN run 32 bit Excel, and therefore 32 bit Perspectives.
CANNOT run 64 bit Excel, and therefore CANNOT run 64 bit Perspectives.

64 bit Windows
CAN run 32 bit Excel, and therefore 32 bit Perspectives.
CAN run 64 bit Excel, and you must run 64 bit Perspectives if it's available. (It wasn't before 10.2.2, so you couldn't use TM1 with 64 bit Excel back then.)

With the exception of device drivers (well duh), 64 bit Windows is supposed to be able to run any software that 32 bit Windows can run. The reverse is obviously not true.

The reality isn't quite like that (especially when Windows 10 is involved) but the problem is largely restricted to recreational software rather than productivity software unless said productivity software dates back to the early 2000s.

Sure, no problem at all.
The bitness of Perspectives should match the bitness of Excel.
A 32 bits client on a 64 bits OS is perfectly fine.
