With which version of Java is TM1 10.2 web developed?

Post by Learn_TM1 »

Hi all,

IBM document shows that TM1 10.2 web is developed by Java. But it doesn't say which version of Java? Could you please tell me about it? Thanks.

Best regards,

It looks like they use Java 1.7. Naturally, that's IBM Java 1.7.

Hi jwilkins,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I didn't finde /jre/ folder in my Cognos TM1 installation. I only find the folder as:
C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64

And I can't run "java -version" command.

Is there some official IBM document to declare what Java version is used to develop TM1 products?

I don't know of any official documentation that explicitly says the Java version. However this article may help you locate the jre folder.

You can then run java.exe in IBM_7.0\bin with the -version flag to get the same printout as my screen shot.

Your path would probably be
C:\Program Files\ibm\cognos\tm1_64\bin\jre\IBM_7.0\bin\java.exe

Hi jwilkins,

Thanks for your tips. I found the folder on the server, where Cognos TM1 installed. And I got the Java Version, which is same as yours.

Best regards,

Interesting, I've just tried out to test it the same way you've done, me neither didn't find JRE folder, but in my case running version prompt was successful. That's the very thing I can't understand with Java at all: everything works fine by the book, but when you actually trying to do that, it appears to be way more complicated as it supposed to be for another person for sure. I'm new-new to all this stuff, so I'm getting over this with these java tutorials https://explainjava.com/ because everything here is explained from several prospectives and at least one of them should work in any cases. But nevertheless, now I've determined that it's wrong time for me to get it started with TM1

Why do you feel it necessary to learn Java to be able to develop and/or use TM1? You're talking about code that happens behind the scenes in TM1. You should never change the Java version that comes with TM1 nor change anything in the Java code. I have been developing in TM1 for years and I don't know squat about Java and I'm doing fine.

You may consider to apply the Interim Fix 24 for TM1 10.2.0.2 or the Interim Fix 12 for TM1 10.2.2.7 to address a vulnerability in the IBM Runtime Environment Java Version 7, see the latest security bulletin
