We haven't had a good hardware discussion in some time...
So, it's been getting on for 10 years, and I'm looking at replacing my (local) TM1 servers. I get that (mostly) more memory is better and (mostly) more cores are better and (probably) SSD hard drives with lots of headroom are good. Ignoring licensing issues for the purposes of argument, and the deba...

Re: View Size issue
You don't say what version you're on - I've just had this on a PAX report that normally runs OK on 10.2.2 and threw this error in the log in 11.030. FWIW, I increased the maximumviewsize and it went away - you can increase this dynamically, so it should be easy to test higher maximumviewsize setting...

Re: DBRW connection to two same named instances, on different servers
Although under some (carefully controlled) circumstances it can be a useful fail-over device. If server1:fred isn't available, and if server1;server2 are the admin hosts, then server2:fred will become available. Obviously it depends on how data is loaded, replicated, etc, as to how up-to-date server...

Re: DBRW connection to two same named instances, on different servers
This won't work in Perspectives. It will use the server instance with the first named admin host in options (so, if admin hosts is set to server1;server2 both with instances called Fred, then the server1 Fred will take precedence). For access from Excel, you won't be able to do what you want. It mig...

Re: Getting data from AD
Not natively, but you can do it through e.g. VBA, VB or Powershell. Here's a sample VBA function: Function Get_LDAP_User_Properties(strObjectType, strSearchField, strObjectToGet, strCommaDelimProps) ' This is a custom function that connects to the Active Directory, and returns the specific ' Active ...

Re: Poll : Which version of Excel is used in your business
It's not a single answer question for us - Citrix is running 2010 and local installs are running 2013 (I know..) I'm aiming to roll out PA this year and make it all local, but we're still testing, so March might be a little tight. I would ideally expect a longer notice period from IBM.

Re: Performance of Architect Vs Perspectives
The difference is only material because your model is taking so long to calc. Without knowing your model in detail it's difficult to be specific, but the speed issue will be down to the way the model is designed - as Win and Tomok have pointed out. I don't think your speed will improve by moving to ...

Yes, firstly you should read the documentation that comes with TM1, such as this. This is really too general a question for this forum and you should also read the guidelines on requests for assistance.

Re: Automatic mail triggering
This isn't really a TM1 specific question: what you're basically trying to do is be notified if a service stops. I did an internet search and seconds later came up with this this . To do it yourself and for free you'll need to be comfortable with VBS/Powershell or somesuch and put it together someth...

Re: Automatic mail triggering
Many many options, and google is your friend on this. We use a combination of Pulse for TM1 which runs on the TM1 server (and does many other things), and Pulseway to monitor the servers and the services on it (including Pulse for TM1). There are ways to do it for free, but Pulseway in particular is...

Re: Retrieving Data using Alternate Hierarchy
A slight hijack, but my concern is that DBR/DBRW/Custom Reports won't ever support alternate hierarchies. I appreciate the need to keep these functions backward compatible, but if we ever want to use alternate hierarchies in PAX in Custom Reports then we would need a new function (DBRH anyone?) for ...

I've been doing some testing on PAX, on 2013 and 2010, and I don't get this behaviour. You may want to get the latest Fix Central versions of PAx and PAW: https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview. ... wg24043782

Re: Planning Analytics for Excel 2.0.1 - Excel sheet protection breaks SUBNM
For anyone interested this is a bug, and a fix is in the pipeline - PI83093 DROPDOWN ARROW FOR A SUBNM CELL DISAPPEARS WHEN SHEET ISPROTECTED (EVEN IF CELL IS SET TO BE UNLOCKED) - although no date for it yet.
