This is a known bug in 10.2.2. If I am not wrong it is resolved in FP4 but I can't be 100% sure.

Security is based on existing CAM or TM1 security.
We have also tested it with TM1 Cloud and you can have the option to install the gateway on premise and access TM1 on the cloud.
This will provide customers who are using cloud with another option instead of TM1Web and Cafe.

BTW, We will be commencing a testing using the gateway with SAP BO BI with a customer soon.

Unfortunately it 's not a straight forward task of using OData connection from PowerBI with TM1 Rest. Give it a test and you will know the issues.

I have to resolve to TI in some of our cases as there is simply no way to go around the stack limit. Can't blame TM1 though.

Yes it works with CX 10.1, just need to verify with Cognos NameSpace if you are using pre-10.2.2 install which is default using CAM as authentication.

Did you notice any stack overflow error in TM1 server log ?
I didn't really look through the code but I suspect you are doing referencing in a circular manner and hence resulted in typical stack overflow, which is not a TM1 bug.
